Reading Proficiency
The Red Oak Community School District is committed to supporting every child as they develop strong reading skills. Iowa law requires all schools to carefully monitor student progress in reading from kindergarten through sixth grade. If a student is not reading at grade level, parents will receive written notice explaining the child’s current reading abilities.
When this happens, we work with families to develop a personalized reading plan that provides targeted support and interventions. These plans remain in place until the student demonstrates consistent, grade-level proficiency.
Parents also have the right to request that their child remain in the same grade for another year if reading proficiency has not yet been reached. If a parent makes this request in writing, the district is required to honor it.
Our goal is to partner with families to ensure that every child has the support they need to become a confident, successful reader.
